A piece of woodA piece of wood can produce something as mundane as a toothpick or as timeless as a well designed table. When I look at a block of wood, I study the grain, clarity and depth of color to see its potential. I may look at a hundred pieces of wood to select the one that suits a particular design. As I think and learn, my designs progress, producing modern, timeless, hand made pieces that incorporate new ideas without being caught up in trends. My work is designed to be functional as well as beautiful, used and touched as well as gazed at. They incorporate smooth, uninterrupted lines that reflect the natural light and feeling of a room. I work with domestic hardwoods, using metal, glass and exotic species of wood as accents to certain features of a piece to give more surface interest. I enjoy working with artists who use other natural media to create collaborative pieces.
